Ripoff Report Verified Safe

In February 2008, I purchased one of DuroPower's 10,000 watt 'commercial' generators. It has been hell ever since! Within the first two weeks the generator had to be put in the repair shop because the ignition/starter coil failed. Also, the gas tank gauge has not worked from day one. My partner and I DROVE to DuroPower's office to pick up the part and 'Brenda' did not have a clue what an ignition/starter coil was. We had to call the mechanic so that he could describe it to her (supposedly, she's the 'parts' manager according to the receptionist). This made me feel very uneasy about this company...Now I know I should have packed the generator and brought it back to the company the day we drove there. Anywho, upon telling her about the gas gauge, she handed me a USED one (I should not have to ask someone for a new gas gauge for my new generator) that ended up being too short for my particular unit (I still have a nonworking gas gauge)....she should have known this. Additionally, we had to rent a generator at a cost of $65 PER DAY. I let it go...we got the generator fixed and the parts were free.

In August 2008, it broke down again and Brenda was called/emailed by my mechanic to order parts needed to fix it. It took TWO WHOLE WEEKS to get the parts to us because, even though she was given the generator specs and model number, she sent the wrong parts! During this time, I had to rent another generator at $65 per day (yes we use our generator alot, BUT as of today, it's still well under 1000 hours AND under 1 year) you do the math.

Brenda specifically stated in report #327329, and I quote, 'Ours (in reference to DuroPower's warranty policy) is 1 year or 1000 hrs, which ever comes first.'
I find this statement interesting, because when I spoke to Brenda about my concerns in August, 6 months after purchasing the generator, and wanted to return it, she flat out stated, because there was just under 500 hours on it at the time, 'you can't return it now because it's used.' You've got to be kidding me! I find this 100% unacceptable.

As I sit here typing this report guess where my generator is.....yep, back in the shop for the 4th time in 8.5 months. It hasn't run the same since the ignition coil went out 2 weeks after receiving the generator, but I believed that DuroPower would stand by their product AND their warranty and resolve my issues. They don't return my phone calls, or send me from voicemail to voicemail heightening my frustration, and their customer service is 100%HORRIBLE...IT HAS BEEN AN UTTER AND TOTAL NIGHTMARE dealing with this company!

I'm currently shopping for a more reliable generator, because I'm sick and tired of spending money (counting rental fees, I'm now out of pocket over $2000) for a PIECE OF JUNK! I spent over $1200 of my hard earned money on this generator and could have gotten a more expensive and RELIABLE generator for the money I've wasted in repairs and gas and lost time enjoying my trailer. I've learned my lesson though...that less expensive doesn't necessarily mean quality. DuroPower REFUSES to make this right and it SUCKS!

With all of this being said, I want to tell anyone who will listen, 'DON'T PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM DUROPOWER, UNLESS YOU'VE GOT MONEY TO BURN! Oh, and by-the-way, I also forgot to mention that the muffler has to be replaced and Brenda stated that it will take 6 - 8 WEEKS for the muffler to come in AND no one else carries the same muffler (believe me...I've spent countless hours trying to find one). GO figure!

So Brenda, what about honoring your company's, '1 year or 1000 hrs warranty?' Your company needs to be held accountable for the products they sell. I want you and your company to know that I'm not going away until this matter is resolved.
