Westminster, MarylandMy latest Verizon bill included, under Misc Charges, a charge for 18.83 called 'Enhanced LD set up fee' from Operator Assistance Network. NO explanation. With taxes totaled 19.21.
I called Verizon and was told to contact OAN directly. I dialed 800-944-9646 and on the other end was told I had reached a 'machine tool shop' (perhaps I did misdial).
I searched the internet for OAN and found innumerable stories, all identical. Mysterious charges for unknown service by a company that cannot be contacted.
I called Verizon and second time. This woman was more knowledgeable about this, informed me it's called 'telephone cramming,' deducted the charges. I placed a block on all third-party, add-ons, and misc charges.
Everyone, call your phone carrier and block these outside charges. Apparently, this is somewhat legal or at least not a priority; you are on your own. I was lucky, my second call the Verizon went smoothly.
