Pure Fitness disguises the fact that they are focused more on selling vitamins and new membership contracts than personal fitness by calling their staff 'Fitness Consultants,' rather than Personal Trainers. This is because they have such high turnover that they can not keep licensed (and safe) fitness professionals on staff.
Their membership policy states that if you move out of state, you can cancel your membership.

True enough, but the documentation and processing time they say they require virtually guarantees that you will continue paying at least 2 months after moving. You can not cancel your membership in person before moving, regardless of what documentation you may have. You must send a written cancellation notice via some modality that requires a signature (more out of pocket expense for you) along with documentation of your new address such as a bill with your name on it - the type of thing you normally don't get until after you have lived at your new residence for a month.

Pure Fitness will try to lure you in by telling you they will give you free 'Fitness Consultations' every month. Don't fall for it. Their staff is not licensed to give you actual fitness information that someone with a degree would be qualified and allowed to give you. Instead, they sloppily take your measurements, take you through a workout, which, without the knowledge that a kinesiologist might have, could very well be hazardous to your health, and wrap it up with high-pressure attempt to sell you supplements. They boast that their supplements are 'Pharmaceutical-Grade.' Do not fall for this meaningless catch phrase. Only a licensed professional is qualified to give you advice on physical activity or nutritional supplements, not someone with two weeks of training.

Conclusion - save yourself potential injury and financial frustration by finding a gym that distinguishes between its sales personnel and fitness instructors - there is a very real and very serious difference.

All personal trainers (1 on 1 training) and fitness consultants (people who work with prospective members and non-client members) at Pure Fitness are certified personal trainers. They go through a one week university and receive a national certification from APEX. This is a minimum requirement for working with members and they're encouraged to get more certifications as they see fit. Your accusation that they are not adequately trained is incorrect.

Pure Fitness provides every member a free consultation each month to be weighed, have body fat taken, have circumference measurements taken and then changes made to their current exercise program to encourage better results. I doubt that the fitness center you are with now has even a tape measure in the club, let alone interact with any of the members in a way that encourages fitness results without paying for it. Far to often a gym membership is just rent for the equipment and there is no interaction from a trained staff to help members with their results. Pure Fitness offers these free evaluations and keeps a card at the front desk to track your progress, something else I highly doubt your current gym is providing. If you received poor monthly evaluations that is unfortunate, however members have lost significant weight with this program and is quite possibly the only fitness company in the country that does this.

There are two ways to cancel a membership, certified mail and filling out a form at the front desk. If the membership has a set term, it clearly states it can be canceled if the member provides valid proof of the move such as a copy of a drivers license or utility bill. Most state laws demand a new resident needs to update their license and car registration within ten days and new residents also receive immediate paperwork showing address changes from their new rental or residence.
